Episode 1. Adjust Locally, Think Globally
Presented by Dr. Anthony Nicholson BSc. M.Chiro. DACNB
The adjustment is a local mechanical force, but the result is a global neurological effect. This is a familiar concept to chiropractors. But how do we explain it?

Episode 2. Blurry Vision: A Pain in the Neck
Presented by Dr. Anthony Nicholson BSc. M.Chiro. DACNB
We often hear patients report that their vision is clearer after treatment to their spine, especially their neck. What's the mechanism and how could we explain it?

eLearning Episode 2 will improve your ability to:
- Explain the reflex connections from the neck for the control of posture, stability and eye movements
- Assess and treat a wide range of functional disorders of balance and orientation
- Appreciate the enormous sensory capacity of the neck and its role in orientation - with this comes improved decision making regarding the type and dosage of treatment to the cervical spine
- Communicate the therapeutic effects of chiropractic treatment that might otherwise seem esoteric or ‘pseudoscientific’
- Apply a basic series of tests for evaluating balance and eye movement control
- Employ a gaze stability exercise to help improve the clinical outcomes of patients with eye movement control impairments arising from cervical dysfunction
Episode 3. Making Sense of Headache
Presented by Dr. Anthony Nicholson BSc. M.Chiro. DACNB
Headache is the most prevalent pain condition that exists. Just how is pain in the front of the head connected to the neck? Is there a way that we could predict quite reliably how a patient with headache will respond to a neck adjustment? The answer seems to be yes…

Episode 4. Thinking Laterally With the Disc Patient
Presented by Dr. Anthony Nicholson BSc. M.Chiro. DACNB
Disc herniation can be one of the most volatile and risky lesions to treat with hands-on methods - unless you carefully diagnose and grade the extent of a disc lesion, apply treatment in a very considered way, and vigilantly monitor the patient’s response. What indicators help you select the right treatment approach? Why is grading the nerve compression on MRI such an important factor in your decision making? This eLearning Episode offers some clarity...

Episode 5. A Neurological Approach to Scoliosis
Presented by Dr. Anthony Nicholson BSc. M.Chiro. DACNB
Idiopathic scoliosis is the most common spinal deformity and the adolescent girl with scoliosis, accompanied by concerned parents, is such a common presentation to chiropractic practice. However, a scoliosis can also appear deceptively innocent and catch the unwary clinician off guard. This episode looks at key features of scoliosis presentation that could signal underlying pathology. So before labelling a scoliosis as 'idiopathic' it is prudent to look for these important signs. We also look at the current theories regarding the cause of idiopathic scoliosis and some practical functional tests.

Episode 6. The Neck and a Sense of Well-Being
Presented by Dr. Anthony Nicholson BSc. M.Chiro. DACNB
How could an adjustment to the neck reduce feelings of anxiety and mild panic? What about complex issues such as gagging sensations, dizziness and other sensitivity reactions of the head and neck? Could there be a specific region in the brainstem that acts as a sort of well-being indicator? This episode looks at the neurological links between the neck, balance control and anxiety disorders through the case of George, a 46-year-old businessman who presents a complex range of symptoms after a fall. We'll explore the types of functional impairments to look for and some of the neurological mechanisms behind our treatment approach.

Episode 7. Occult Cervical Root Lesions: Don't Miss the Clues
Presented by Dr. Anthony Nicholson BSc. M.Chiro. DACNB
Chiropractors have long appreciated the importance of identifying nerve interference at the spinal outlet. However, we also recognise that actual physical compression really only accounts for a small percentage of cases, and when it does happen, the signs are usually fairly obvious. As our understanding of pain science grows, so does our ability to recognise a range of subtle expressions of nerve insult.

Description
Think about the following common diagnoses that patients arrive with every day in clinical practice: costotransverse joint sprain, lateral epicondylitis, costochondritis, pectoralis muscle strain and rotator cuff tendonitis. Now let us consider that each of these could actually be an occult lesion of a lower cervical nerve root. It is increasingly recognised that exiting neural tissues may be behind many of the peripheral pain syndromes that are mistakenly labelled as a local mechanical problem.
In this eLearning Episode we focus on a clinical commentary by Louis Gifford, which reminds us that most of the conditions that we see everyday have a spectrum of presentations. So just how do we recognise the more subtle expressions of cervical nerve root insult?
